You may know Mazi Smith if you went to high school at East Kentwood High School. Smith was a top recruit in 2019 and a beast of a defenseman on the field at East Kentwood and now as a member of the Michigan Wolverines.
There is no denying that Smith is a force to be reckoned with on the field with the Wolverines. Smith is big, wide, thick, strong, and fast for being over 325 pounds which is a rare commodity as a defenseman.
Smith has become a leader for the U of M defense on the field with players, coaches, and fans alike all impressed with his determination and leader on the team.
Mazi Smith Gets Pulled Over
It's no secret that on the morning of October 7, 2022, Mazi Smith was pulled over for a speeding violation in a residential neighborhood in Ann Arbor. Smith was not drinking or had been drinking or doing anything else to inhibit his driving.
When Smith was stopped a Glock 19 semi-automatic handgun was found in the vehicle. A couple of magazines were also found on his person when being searched.
The gun was not loaded but was legally purchased and registered by Smith. The reason Smith was arrested as he did not have a concealed pistol license and you need one of those when carrying a weapon. Smith was currently in the process of obtaining his concealed carry permit.
Smith totally cooperated with the officer and was forthcoming with answers to all the officer's questions in a peaceful manner including all information regarding the gun.
Smith has also fully cooperated with the university, his coaches, and his teammates regarding the subject.
A court date for Smith is set for December 8.
How Much Ammunition Was Smith Carrying?
I'm not quite sure why a guy the size of Mazi Smith needs a sidearm but he did have an unusual amount of ammunition in his vehicle when he was pulled over. According to MLive, Smith had a 30-round magazine, a 24-round magazine, and a 15-round magazine. That is a lot of ammunition.
