Things haven't been looking up in Calumet since the copper industry sputtered out almost a hundred years ago, but being named 'Hockeyville' brought back the faith.

First of all, some full disclosure. The Keweenaw Peninsula to me is God's Country. I've been driving up there almost every summer since the late '90s. The people, the land, the beautiful waterfalls and the Lake Superior shoreline scenery are all simply beautiful.

So to see something good happen to a town like Calumet brings a little tear to my eye.

They recently won a competition with Kraft to be named 'Hockeyville USA', which meant they received money to fix up their beloved Colosseum hockey rink, and had the Detroit Red Wings pay a visit.

Next time up there, I'm going to pay a visit to the Colosseum.
