Grand Rapids police are investigating an assault that occurred on a Rapid bus around noon on Monday.

According to a GRPD media release, a person was stabbed in the head while riding a bus near Kalamazoo Avenue and Elliot Street SE.

Police say the suspect got up from a seat, walked to the victim, and stabbed the victim once in the head.

The suspect ran from the bus and has since been caught and arrested by police.

The victim was taken to St. Mary's Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to Fox 17, Sgt. Terry Dixon, spokesperson for the GRPD, says that it does not appear that the two knew each other.

While the motive for the attack is still unknown, Dixon says it should be considered an isolated incident.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Grand Rapids Police Department at 456-3604 or Silent Observer at 774-2345.
