Grand Rapids Griffins Do Some Spring Cleaning of Coach and Players
Like many of us, spring cleaning is here and the owners of the Grand Rapids Griffins are doing a little of their own with the coaching staff and players.
Grand Rapids Griffins 2022-23 Season
It was a tough season for the Grand Rapids Griffins finishing last place in the Central Division. The Griffins ended the season with a record of 28-36-4-4 and with a record like that and a coach who has been driving the bus for 5 seasons, obviously, some changes are going to be made.
The Griffins had no big story to tell this season and the loyal fans did not have much to celebrate but still showed up to support the team. I don't want to bag on the Griffins too much, it is still one of the most affordable and fun things to do in West Michigan during the colder months of the year.
Griffins Management Does Some Spring Cleaning
Aside from the rain on Sunday, there was another storming announcement that came from Grand Rapids Griffin's general manager Shawn Horcoff (also assistant general manager of Detroit Red Wings) stating there will be some coaching changes for the team.
After 5 seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins, head coach Ben Simon will not be returning. Assistant coaches Matt MacDonald and Todd Krygier, along with goaltending development coach Brian Mahoney-Wilson will not have their contracts renewed for the 2023-24 season.
What Griffins Players Will be Leaving?
According to Fox 17, a host of Griffins will be headed to the Toledo Walleye that include defensemen Seth Barton, Donovan Sebrango, and Eemil Viro, forwards Trenton Bliss, Kirill Tyutyayev, and Drew Worrad, and goalie John Lethemon. One thing is for sure, this is not a promotion for any of the players but at least they will be still skating for another team.
So far there has been no announcement of potential coaches or replacement players for the Grand Rapids Griffins but I'm sure there will be some announcements coming in the near future.
