On Tuesday it was a hot and humid day in West Michigan which lead to the Grand Haven State Park to cool off and relax in the water. Unfortunately for some of those people going in the water almost turned deadly.
Three Near Drownings Force The Grand Haven State Park To Be Closed
1st Near Drowning Incident At Grand Haven State Park
The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety responded to the Grand Haven State Park on a water rescue at 6:50pm. A 28 y/o Holland woman was struggling to get back to shore when her 24 y/o husband went to help her. The 24 y/o man also started to struggle in the water. Both made it to shore by the time Officers arrived on scene.
2nd Near Drowning Incident At Grand Haven State Park
During the first near-drowing incident, a second call came in where a 35 y/o Comstock Park father had attempted to save his 12 y/o daughter and 11 y/o son from drowning. The father and children were saved from the water by an off-duty Grand Haven Department of Public Safety Officer and other citizens.
3rd Near Drowning Incident At Grand Haven State Park
While Officers were still on scene they were advised of a 3rd water rescue involving a 28 y/o Okemos woman struggling in the water. Public Safety Officers assisted the women’s husband in bringing her back to shore.
Due to the conditions being a red flag and the three near-drownings, the Grand Haven State Park made the decision to close the beach; Grand Haven Department of Public Safety assisted with clearing the water.
