As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and deaths related to the virus have climbed, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has issued an executive order that all salons close beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 22. The salons have been ordered to remain closed through April 13.

Impacted businesses include hair salons, nail salons, massage salons, spas, tanning salons, and tattoo, piercing and body art salons. The order does not apply to services necessary for medical treatment.

In a press release, Governor Whitmer explained her decision to issue the order:

COVID-19 has created an unprecedented challenge to our way of life as Michiganders. That’s why we are making decisions based on science and facts to protect public health and keep people safe. I know these changes will be hard, but they are temporary, and they are necessary to slow the spread of the virus and help save lives.
