After 10 years in business, Freshii in McKay Tower on Monroe Center is permanently closing.

Freshii began in 2005 in New York City. While working for fashion designer for Oscar de la Renta, founder Matthew Corrin was inspired by mom and pop delis with fresh food, but what he felt was lackluster branding and service. He sought to “add magic to the fresh food business” and so he founded Freshii.

The fast casual chain says their menu is nutrition-led and every 90 days they roll out a new item that incorporates the latest health and food trends.

Menu items include bowls, burritos, salads, wraps, soups, smoothies, and juices.

According to Crain's Grand Rapids, the downtown Grand Rapids Freshii will close its doors Friday, Nov 3, 2023, following struggles after the pandemic.

Franchisee Nathan Ashcroft tells Crains,

It all happened very fast. We knew that our lease was coming up and that a franchise agreement was going to have to be renewed. There were just a lot of factors that were playing in the decision, and we just found that it’s not worth it. It’s just too much risk.

The closure of the downtown Freshii follows the closure of the East Beltline location last January.

There are no other locations in Grand Rapids. The two remaining Freshii restaurants are in Royal Oak and Detroit.
