During Sunday night's Video Music Awards on MTV, Miley Cyrus won the award for Video of the Year for her "Wrecking Ball" video.

Instead of just walking up, accepting her award and giving a speech, she did something a little different.

Earlier in the evening while on her way to the awards ceremony, Cyrus Instagrammed a picture of her and a blond dude, saying that he was her "date" for the evening.

Her date was a homeless guy named Jesse. He went up and accepted the award on Cyrus' behalf, where he revealed that he was homeless in an attempt to bring light to "the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now."

Check out Jesse's acceptance speech.
