Michigan is breaking boundaries and making history.

For the first time ever, pride flags are flying on top of the state building in Michigan. This past Saturday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer ordered that two pride flags be flown outside the George W. Romney building in Lansing -- the main office of the governor. You can see the flags being installed in a video Governor Whitmer posted to Twitter.

This comes a week after Whitmer signed a proclamation declaring June as Pride Month in Michigan. In a statement she said that

This is an important step in ensuring LGBTQ Michiganders are treated with the respect they deserve, but there’s still more work to do.
