It's the season for tax scams. One in West Michigan is targeting Calvin College students.

Wood TV 8 reports that the FBI contacted Calvin to warn of a scam in which students are contacted by phone and told they need to pay an "education tax".

The scammers then leave the FBI's phone number as a number to call back.

Calls from students asking about the "education tax" tipped off the FBI, who then contacted Calvin.

FBI (and the IRS) say they will not call and demand any sort of payment over the phone.

Calvin College asks that any students who get a phone call regarding an "education tax" to contact Campus Safety at 616-526-3333.

Any student who has been defrauded by this scam should contact the Grand Rapids Police Department.
