Farmer’s Almanac Correct: Big Winter Storm In Michigan Next Week
This winter has been far more wintery than anything we got last year. Last winter saw the warmest winter in 125+ years of recording by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) with 38.4" of snowfall between December 2023 and February 2024.
As of December 13th, Grand Rapids had seen over 25 inches of snow and Gaylord has already surpassed its total from last year (over 85 inches of snow). But this is all before a potentially big winter storm happens next week, predicted by the Farmer's Almanac many months ago.

A Strange Time
While Los Angeles is combating historically devasting wildfires, parts of the south like Texas not used to snow are bracing for a snowstorm. It's an odd time for the States. However, for once, Michigan is not involved in snowstorm talk, though we are expected to get a few inches of snow.

Where things will get blistery and a cause for concern will be later this month as Michiganders will face something many of us might be familiar with: a Polar Vortex. If that word rings a bell, it's probably because you remember the blizzard from 2019. While our storm isn't expected to be as bad as that storm, you're going to need to bundle up.
What To Expect & Farmer's Almanac's Prediction
A Polar Vortex is when arctic air is carried down from the North Pole, bringing with it freezing air and lake-effect snow. Weather predictions from meteorologist Mark Torregrossa with the MLive predict that temperatures are going to drop and stay low for most of next week, with a chance of a snowstorm next weekend.
However, the most surprising thing was that the Farmer's Almanac predicted that Michigan should expect a January snowstorm anytime between January 20-27. If Torregrossa's prediction is correct, it would be a few days before January 20th but still pretty incredible the Almanac could predict the weather so accurately considering the Almanac was released in September.
But as we all know, weather is unpredictable at the end of the day, no matter how many people are trying to guess how it will go.
