Eight GR Area Teams Still Alive In State Football Playoffs
District titles are on the line Friday night in the MHSAA football playoffs.
The OK Conference is still well represented as the state tournament slowly whittles down its field, which this year included every team that was still playing in the wake of the CoVid-19 pandemic.
Here's the schedule for tonight's district title games.
Division 1
Grandville (7-1) at Rockford (6-0), 7pm Friday
These two OK Red rivals met in the last game of the regular season back on October 23, with Rockford coming away with a 28-8 win.
Division 2
Caledonia (4-4) at Muskegon Mona Shores (8-0), Friday, 7pm.
Caledonia's Scots have been reinvigorated in the playoffs and have scored a couple of big upsets, but can they dethrone the top ranked defending D2 champs?
Division 3
Middleville Thornapple Kellogg (5-3) at East Grand Rapids (5-3), Friday 7pm
Thornapple Kellogg has had an extra week to prepare for the Pioneers after getting last week off due to a CoVid forfeit to Zeeland West. But the Pioneers may have an edge due to a slightly tougher schedule in the regular season.
Division 4
Forest Hills Eastern (5-3) at Whitehall (7-1), Friday 6pm
The Hawks may play in the tougher OK Gold conference, but Whitehall's defense has been very stingy giving up points this season.
Hamilton (4-4) v. South Christian (7-1) at East Kentwood, Friday 7pm
On paper, this is a South Christian romp, but funny things can happen in the tournament. The Sailors are well coached, so I don't expect a let up.
Division 5
Catholic Central (8-0) has already advanced to the regionals with 1-0 CoVid forfeit win over Portland. CC has only played one playoff game, and are in the regional final.
