Relive The 50s At These Drive-In Movie Theaters Around Michigan

Movies bring people together. From silent film era stars like Buster Keaton to modern-day celebrities like Margot Robbie, people flock to theaters to enjoy a movie together. But before you watched movies from heated recliner leather seats, movies were watched from the comfort of your car projected onto a massive outdoor screen.

While drive-in theaters like this have dwindled since their heights in the 1950s, Michigan still has a surprising number of drive-in movie theaters like this still in operation. We live in a generation of nostalgia.

What is old is cool again, and the novelty of a drive-in theater is certainly in right now. Plus, who doesn't love two movies for the price of one?

Getty Drive-In (Muskegon)

The drive-in theater located here in West Michigan, Getty Drive-In located in Muskegon, Michigan features four large screens owned by Celebration Cinema. Audio is played through car speakers via the radio. It was created in the 1940s and today it shows first-run movies (recent releases).

Cherry Bowl (Honor)

In business since 1953, the Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater shows films on the largest movie screen in Michigan. Though the theater now uses digitized projectors, it still uses classic film projectors here and there. This theater also offers FM audio but still plays sound through its original speaker posts for a truly nostalgic experience.

Capri Drive-In (Coldwater)

Celebrating its 60th year in operation, the Capri Drive-In is a two-screen theater located just a few miles from the Indiana border. One screen is 150 inches across and the other is 80 inches. It also offers FM audio, but more importantly, it has a large snack bar, video games, and an outdoor eating area. It is open seven days a week.

US 23 Drive-In Theater (Flint)

Featuring three screens and a revamped concession stand, the US 23 Drive-In Theater is located just off US 23 (shocking) and offers double features each night.

Ford-Wyoming Drive-in (Dearborn)

Sporting a whopping 5 screens, Ford-Wyoming Drive-In in Dearborn offers FM radio audio, an extensive food menu, and movies year-round. It opened in 1950.

These theaters offer double features all summer long, so grab your friends and some popcorn and enjoy the movies as your grandparents did.
