Nineteen puppies and six cats are now available for adoption at Lake Haven Animal Rescue in Newaygo County.

The animals arrived on Sunday, transferred from a shelter in Georgia where they were facing euthanasia, Fox 17 reports.

Lake Haven Animal Rescue director Cheryl McCloud told Fox 17 that the Newaygo County shelter is stepping in to take the animals because the Georgia area is overwhelmed with them.

In Newaygo County, McCloud says the spay and neuter programs are more effective:

“If there were puppies here in any of my surrounding shelters in West Michigan I would take those. There aren’t any, so we took the puppies from them because they’re going to kill them. It makes no sense to let them die there when I don’t have any.”

If you are interested in adopting, more information can be found at Lake Haven's website.
