Dogstar Featuring Actor Keanu Reeves Coming to Grand Rapids
If you are a 90s kid or a big fan of actor Keanu Reeves then you may be aware of the band Dogstar which is coming to Grand Rapids, Michigan, in August.
Who is Dogstar?
One of the members of Dogstar is pretty well known if you've seen the movies John Wick (1-5), the Matrix, Point Break, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and so many more. Yes, it's actor Keanu Reeves who plays bass guitar.
Dogstar was formed in 1991 by Keanu Reeves and drummer Robert Mailhouse and at the time they had Gregg Miller on guitar and vocals. Guitarist/vocalist Bret Domrose joined in 1994 as a fourth member but in 95 he became the lead vocalist and guitarist replacing Miller and has been with Dogstar ever since.
Dogstar made an EP called Our Little Visionary in 1996. The band hit the road and did shows with David Bowie and Bon Jovi. I remember when they played the Ritz in Detroit in the mid-90s and the place was packed to the hilt. Dogstar made a full-length album in 1999 called Happy Ending. The band ended in 2002 but restarted again in 2020 (needed something to do during the pandemic). Dogstar is a product of the 90s and that is the alternative rock sound they created for themselves. They made a more recent album in 2023 called Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees and played their first show in over 20 years at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival.
