New Digital Hunt Tags Coming for Michigan Hunters in 2026
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has recently implemented several updates to its digital tagging system for hunters, including expanding the eHarvest digital kill tag program.
Why Kill Tags Are Essential for Michigan Hunters
Kill tags play a critical role for hunters in Michigan by helping ensure they remain in legal compliance while supporting responsible wildlife management. These tags confirm a lawful harvest and allow the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to monitor game populations, establish sustainable harvest limits, and deter poaching.
Michigan hunters have been required to tag deer since 1915, marking more than a century of harvest tracking in the state. Over time, the system has evolved from traditional paper tags to modern digital options. As of March 1, 2026, hunters can use eHarvest digital tags for deer, turkey, bear, and other species through the Michigan DNR app.

The Hunt Fish App to Expand Digital Tagging for 2026 Season
The era of traditional deer check stations is coming to an end. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is expanding its eHarvest digital tagging system to cover deer, turkey, bear, bobcat, otter, fisher, and marten.
Hunters will need to download the Michigan DNR Hunt Fish mobile app to manage their licenses and submit harvest tags immediately after a kill. Just search the app store with your device using Michigan DNR Hunt Fish. With a cell signal at your hunting or fishing location, the app functions just like a traditional paper license or tag.

The app is free to download and offers more than just harvest tagging and license management. It puts all hunting and fishing rules, maps, and a wealth of additional resources right in the palm of your hand.
