You can't get more "Pure Michigan" than catching and eating a walleye. The Great Lakes are filled with them and many inland lakes and rivers where walleye can be caught in Michigan.

Michigan's own Kid Rock included the line "catching walleye from the dock" in the song "All Summer Long." If you like catching walleye from the dock, the bank, or in a boat the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has a new walleye challenge for Michiganders.

The walleye challenge will occur through the Midwest and Canada but Michiganders will only compete with other Michiganders. There will be biweekly prizes which you can learn more about here.

According to the DNR press release, anglers will download the MyCatch mobile app that keeps track of lake and river catch data that will help better assess and manage walleye populations in Michigan. Don't worry anglers, your secret honeyholes will stay a secret and the app or leaderboards will never give out your specific location. This will be a win/win for anglers and the DNR.
