COVID-19 Has Forced MSU Game To Be Cancelled
COVID-19 strikes again and this time it has forced the Michigan State University game against Maryland to be canceled for this weekend.
When sports began to return back in the summer, we saw the problems the coronavirus was causing Major League Baseball, then the National Football League, college universities across the country and now a MSU is feeling the wrath of the virus.
According to WOOD, the MSU vs Maryland game has been canceled due to Maryland head coach Michael Locksley testing positive for COVID-19.
I highly doubt the NCAA would cancel a game if only a coach contracted the virus, so odds are there are some players involved as well. Due to medical privacy laws, the Maryland Athletics Department is unable to announce if any other players or coaching staff members have contracted the virus.
No word yet if the game between MSU and Maryland will be rescheduled for later in the season but as of now the 1-4 Spartans will be in their dorms watching other teams play this weekend.
According to WOOD, Maryland head coach Michael Locksley said,
I am gutted for our team and for our fans. This team is eager to play and compete and continue the growth we've seen this season. This virus is testing our players and coaches right now, but I have no doubt that we will emerge as a stronger unit for having gone through this together. As for me personally, I am feeling strong, with only minor symptoms. I will continue to lead this program virtually and our game preparations for Indiana will bein immediately.
It is unfortunate games have to get canceled but in order to keep the season going the Big Ten Conference has protocols in place to handle such situations and the teams have to follow the guidelines to keep their players, coaches and opposing teams safe.
