Grand Rapids City High and Middle School was named the best high school in Michigan by US News and World Report. Some other West Michigan schools also fared well.

City High and Middle School continued its tradition of quality education when it was named Michigan's best high school in the annual listing of the nation's best secondary schools by US news and World Report. Overall, City was ranked the 21st best high school in the country.

Black River Public School in Holland was ranked second in the Grand Rapids Metro rankings, followed by East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills Northern, Forest Hills Central and Byron Center.

The top five Michigan districts were, City High, International Academy in Macomb County, International Academy of Bloomfield Hills, Washtenaw International, and Rochester Adams.

Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
