Motor City - Music Capital of the World

Detroit has long been known as the Motor City since this is where the bulk of the automotive industry got its start and is still building cars and trucks to this day.

First, it was Motown and all the great artists from that era. Then the MC Five, The Stooges, Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, Kid Rock and so many more made a name for themselves starting off in Detroit.

Several legendary live albums have been recorded in Detroit. Bob Seger recorded Live Bullet in Detroit and even said in the recording that "people say Detroit has the best audiences in the world. S%$# I've known that for ten years."

The Doors, Cream, Def Leppard, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, Journey, MC5, Kiss, J. Giles Band, Yes, the White Stripes, and more have all recorded live albums in Detroit.

Bob Seger Christmas Songs

Let's start with Bob Seger who recorded the Little Drummer Boy back in 1989.

I found this little gem from Bob Seger when he had a band called Bob Seger & the Last Herd back in 1966. This one is called "Sock It To Me Santa" and for a Christmas song this one has some fire.

Ted Nugent Christmas Songs

The Motor City Madman himself Ted Nugent recorded an instrumental version of Deck the Halls that still gets some airplay to this day around the holidays.

Since the Nuge didn't lay any vocals on Deck the Halls, I found this little nugget when Nugent performed on the David Letterman Show and the two did this very funny parody of "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire." This will make you laugh but the funny guy is Letterman.

Alice Cooper's Christmas Songs

Alice Cooper was part of a Christmas album called "We Wish You A Metal Xmas" and he did his version of "Santa Claus is Coming To Town." The Coop is in good company on this album as you can see from the list above.

Although Alice doesn't sing in this parody of "Twelve Days of Christmas" he does do some narration in the intro of the video and the song is all about him.

Jack White's Christmas Songs

Jack White doesn't sing on this version of "Christmas Time Will Soon be Over" but it sure shows his love for bluegrass music.

"Candy Cane Children" is a Christmas song from Jack White from his days in the White Stripes.

Pop Evil Christmas Song

Pop Evil singer Leigh Kakaty will often do a few acoustic shows around Christmas and here he is doing an acoustic version of "Dear Santa."

Kid Rock's Christmas Song

Kid Rock did a parody of "Frosty the Snowman" called "Frosty the Blowman" at the end of a show.

Iggy Pop Does White Christmas

Legendary punk rocker Iggy Pop does his version of White "Christmas."

Da Yoopers Christmas Song

You cannot have a Christmas list of holiday songs from bands in Michigan without including Da Yoopers and their parody of "Jingle Bells" with "Rusty Chevrolet."
