When you see a new song come out called "Pantera," one could only hope it's a form of paying respect to one of the greatest metal bands of all time. But...not today. The second song from the upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot, titled "Pantera," has absolutely nothing to do with the Pantera.

"Pantera" is a song by Brazilian pop artist Anitta. While the song has absolutely nothing to do with the legendary cowboys from Hell, "pantera" does mean "panther" in Spanish. So rather than harping on this song, we'll give you a little history lesson on why Pantera chose their name.

In 2016, late drummer Vinnie Paul told us the initial names for the band were Gemini and later Eternity. One of Paul's classmates in high school suggested the name "Pantera" after an Italian race car called "The De Tomaso Pantera." Paul did a little more research, discovered that the word translates to panther, designed a logo of the large predatory cat and his bandmates were sold.

The new Charlie's Angels soundtrack features other pop and hip-hop artists like Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey and Nicki Minaj. If you're interested in hearing the Latin tune "Pantera," listen below.
