On Friday the Cascade Fire Department got a call that there was an animal who had fallen through the ice on the Thornapple River.

When crews arrived, they spotted the doe, struggling in the ice, while her fawn looked on from the bank.

Firefighters were able to use a Nebulus ice rescue system rigged with ropes and pulleys to save the doe.

Wood TV 8 reports, Cascade Fire Chief Adam Magers said the whole operation took about half an hour and provided valuable training for the department.

Cascade Charter Township shared footage to Facebook, giving "a big shout out to our crews for protecting all the creatures who call Cascade home!"
