The Grandville school became the first area school to shutdown its fall season in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

There may be school in the fall at Calvin Christian, but there won't be a football season.

Calvin's head coach Tom Bouma told our news partner FOX-17 News Wednesday afternoon that they will NOT field a team this coming season due to CoVid-19 concerns.

Bouma said he would reconsider if the season could be moved to the spring. That scenario has been discussed by state officials, but no decision has been made.

While Calvin is one of the first schools statewide who have officially canceled the 2020 fall season, state officials told Mlive.com earlier Wednesday that they still plan to have a fall season.

The Squires were scheduled to play Manistee in their first game on September 3.
