Two brothers are set to open a new bakery and restaurant soon, inspired by their home country of Kosovo.

Buka Bakehouse to Open in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Crain's Grand Rapids reports that the new Balkan eatery is coming to 888 Forest Hills Ave. SE, where Marco's American Bistro used to be.

Brothers Bujar Selimi and Agim Selimi are behind Buka Bakehouse.

According to Crain's, the brothers fled Kosovo in 1997 with their family, seeking refuge in America during the Yugoslav Wars. In 1998, the family moved to West Michigan.

Bujar tells Crain's,

Coming from where we were, it was like we jumped a hundred years into the future,” he said of moving to the U.S. “We’re grateful for what this nation and the people here have done for us. And now, what can we do to also give back in a way? We know food. We’re going to give flavor and hospitality, which is what we know.
