Walker Police are investigating after two trailers containing approximately $10K in supplies for an upcoming camping trip were taken from American Legion Post 179 in Walker over the weekend.

Scoutmaster Chris Burlew of BSA Troop 281 tells Fox 17,

My first thought was, ‘Who goes to the American Legion on Father’s Day and steals Boy Scouts stuff?’ My second thought was, ‘What do we do in three weeks when we go camp?

Burlew says the trailers were last seen in the parking lot of the American Legion Sunday morning during an event. Later that evening he got a call from an assistant scout master notifying him the trailers were now gone. They tried to hunt them down, thinking maybe someone moved them or borrowed them -- they've had no luck no locating the trailers.

Walker Police are considering the incident a theft. They posted pictures of the trailers to Facebook. Note that the people in the photos are not connected to the theft.

One trailer is red and the other is white. Both say "Boy Scouts" along with the troop number. According to Fox 17, the red trailer has a list of Eagle Scouts on the back. They were filled with camping gear like sleeping bags and a stove.

Walker Police say if you see the trailers to contact your local law enforcement agency. Anyone with tips should call the Walker PD Detective Tip Line at 616-791-6788.

Apparently, theft of Boy Scout trailers is not that uncommon. A blog for scout leaders reported in April:

News stories about Scout trailer theft are unnervingly easy to find — three to five per month, by our unofficial count.

Boy Scouts of America have even issued tips on how to secure trailers and prevent theft.
