As of Wednesday, Michigan is under a new set of COVID-19 restrictions which once again closes indoor service for bars and restaurants, bowling alleys, group fitness classes, etc. Chances are you're going to spend the majority of your time at home but if you find yourself going stir-crazy, you can still get out and have fun while staying safe.

Go See a Movie

Movie theaters may be closed (again) but Celebration Cinema's pop-up drive-in's are still on! Celebration North and Lansing have set up screens in their parking lots where you can drive up and still enjoy a movie. Both locations will be showing the following:

  • Thursday, 19th: Freaky (with Vince Vaughn) and The War with Grandpa (starring Robert Dinero)
  • Friday & SaturdayThe Santa Claus and Vanguard.

Purchase your tickets in advance here. It costs $20 for one car, which allows up to six people.

Side note: Getty Drive-In in Muskegon is reopening on November 25th.

Visit the Zoo

Heads up, this is the last weekend that the John Ball Zoo is open. This means this is your last chance to see this cute face below.

Isn't Willow adorable?! You should see her sister Rose, too. Don't forget about the tigers, bears, penguins, monkeys, and more animals you can see one last time for the season.

JBZ will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10a-4p. They will still be running on a limited capacity, therefore you need to reserve your ticket. Face masks are required for ages 5 and up and must be worn all throughout the zoo. More info here.

Check Out the New LEGO Exhibit at GRPM

Grand Rapids Public Museum also remains open but are limiting the amount of people who can visit at one time. You can explore most of the museum and check out the new Wild Connections exhibit where all the art is made out of LEGO bricks. The exhibit focuses on

...animal endangerment, the balance of ecosystems, and mankind’s relationship with nature.

An additional fee is required for this exhibit.

Under the Arctic: Digging into Permafrost is a temporary exhibit that is free with admission.

Advance tickets are required to enter GRPM. The Chaffee Planetarium, Meijer Theater, and Arcade will be closed.

Visit Frederik Meijer Gardens

The Gardens remain open for business and the weather this weekend will be a good one to get out and explore the 158 acres FMG sits on.

Frederik Meijer Gardens is currently operating at a 30% capacity and the cafe is open for grab & go items. You can see their full COVID-19 plan here.

Tickets will be purchased in-person at the main desk.

Go Shopping

Malls and retail stores are still open under the executive order. This means you can start, and possibly finish, your holiday shopping. Several places have even started Black Friday deals early to avoid holiday crowds.

I'm not sure about you but retail therapy tends to help me when I'm feeling bored, or when I want to take my mind off things.

Most importantly, no matter what you do or where you go, be safe when you are out in public. It's up to all of us to get through this second wave of the pandemic.
