Allegan’s New Restaurant Blends Asian Flavors and Comfort Food in Bold Ways

A New Addition to Downtown Allegan Dining

Another Mother held its grand opening earlier this month at 211 Locust Street in the heart of downtown Allegan.

Maybe, like me, you're immediately curious about the name. The owners, who have 50 years of combined hospitality experience, explain:

The name comes from the phrase ‘brother from another mother,’ a nod to friendship, chosen family, and the kind of connection we hope you feel the moment you walk through our doors.

What's on the Menu at Allegan's Another Mother

That welcoming, community-focused vibe shows up in the menu too, which mixes familiar comfort foods with bold Asian-inspired flavors and encourages sharing.

Another Mother serves brunch daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., then switches over to dinner service from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Brunch has some fun standouts. There’s a scallion pancake topped with crispy Spam, gochujang sauce, and maple teriyaki glaze, plus banana bread French toast with miso butter and Michigan maple syrup. You’ll also find a pork belly breakfast sando, and an open-faced meatloaf served on a croissant bun with chili crunch and fried eggs.

Dinner leans more into shareable plates and creative combinations. Options include pork belly skewers with five spice glaze, chicken meatball skewers with General Tso’s glaze, tuna tataki, and chef noodles in a gochujang oat milk broth.

Craft Cocktails in the Social District

The drink menu has lots of personality too! Along with beer, wine, and canned cocktails, Another Mother is mixing up house drinks like the Tamarack Street with tamarack tea-infused rum and flamed orange, plus the Hunters Bike Shop made with Sazerac Rye, Long Road cherry, brandy cherry, and orange bitters.

Another bonus for summer?
