The city of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is cracking down on people using tarps on their property since they are against the zoning ordinance.

There’s no clarification on whether exceptions are made for storm-related roof damage and a tarp is needed to protect the home until it can be repaired.

You never realize how useful a tarp is until you need one. Tarps are versatile covers used for protection from the elements (rain, sun, wind), covering and securing items like construction materials, vehicles, and equipment, and creating temporary shelters for camping or outdoor events.

The only downside is that tarps often look unsightly outside homes or worksites, but then again, they weren’t made to be visually appealing. Roofers use them all the time when a job is unfinished and rain is in the forecast.
