Amazon has announced plans to expand in West Michigan, by building a new sorting and delivery facility in Walker.
WOOD TV8 says the new proposed facility would be located north of I-96, west of Alpine on 4 Mile Road between Fruit Ridge Ave. and Walker Avenue. If the proposal is accepted by the Walker Planning Commission, Amazon would build a 113,000 square-foot facility and add “hundreds” of jobs to the West Michigan area.
The construction project would also change our roadways in that area as well, by creating a four-way stop on 4 Mile and Hendershot Ave. as well connect Hendershot Ave. with Northridge Drive and then create a roadway to Fruit Ridge Ave, WOOD TV8 reports.
Currently, Amazon operates a distribution Center that opened earlier this year in Gaines Township and as WZZM reported in February, that location opened more than 1,000 new jobs for the area. Chances are the Walker location could do the same.
The project still needs approval from the Walker Planning Commission, and WOOD TV8 says they plan to hold a hearing regarding the expansion on Wednesday, October 7th.
