33 people (28 men and five women) were arrested in a four-day operation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) in West Michigan.

The agency put out a press release Friday, stating that their operations in West Michigan targeted "criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and immigration violators."

While 33 people were taken into custody, the agency says that only 24 of them had prior criminal convictions. The individuals taken into custody were from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Liberia.

“Operations like this one demonstrate ICE’s continued focus on the arrest of dangerous criminal aliens as well as those who enter the United States illegally,” Rebecca Adducci, field office director for ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) in Detroit, said in the release. “I’m grateful to serve with the men and women of ICE who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to protect the communities we live and work in.”
