UPDATE: Police are now saying a 10-year-old made up an abduction attempt in Gaines Township this moring. Fox 17 reports that after further investigation, it was found the girl made up the story because she did not want to get in trouble for missing the bus.

Police are investigating an abduction attempt that occurred in Gaines Township around 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

Fox 17 reports that a 10-year-old girl was waiting for her school bus near Parkbrook and Division when she was approached by a man in a truck.

The girl was playing in a creek near the Grand Village mobile home park when she says a man wearing a mask drove up in a white pick-up truck. He reportedly forced the girl into his truck.

According to police, the man drove around with her for about an hour before she was able to escape. She was able to get out of the truck at McDonald’s on 68th Street, near US-131, and run home.

When the girl made it home around 9:20a.m., her mother called police.
