Update: The official announcement has been made.

Previously: Grand Rapids NBC affiliate WOOD TV, is expected to announce that they will add a 4 pm newscast for West Michigan. That newscast, along with other changes, will dramatically up the 'news' content on the station to 18 hours a day.

The station is expected to add the 4 pm, hourlong newscast on September 12th to replace the long-running Ellen Degeneres show.

Other programming changes include the longtime soap opera Days of Our Lives, moving to streaming service Peacock. An hour-long newscast from NBC News will replace the soap.

What will WOOD TV's Schedule Be In Fall Of 2022?

With the changes, the daily lineup will contain the following 'news' programs each day (times approximate):

  • Daybreak | 4:30 a.m. – 7 a.m. (Local News and Weather)
  • Today Show | 7 a.m. - 11 a.m (National & Entertainment News)
  • EightWest | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Local Infotainment Show)
  • News 8 | 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. (Local News and Weather)
  • NBC News | 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. (National News)
  • TMZ Live | 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. (Entertainment News)
  • News 8 | 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.(Local News and Weather)
  • News 8 | 7 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.(Local News and Weather)
  • Inside Edition | 7:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. (Entertainment News)
  • News 8 | 11 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. (Local News and Weather)

The overnight schedule from 1:30 a.m. - 4:30 a.m. is expected to feature a replay of the TMZ show and national offerings from NBC news.

With that schedule, "24 Hour News 8" will be closer to living up to its name with a whopping 18 hours of news programming daily.

While WOOD TV will have a ton of overall news programming available to its audience, Fox affiliate WXMI will still have the overall local news lead providing 11 1/2 hours of daily local broadcasts each day versus WOOD TV's 9 hours :
