The Great State of Michigan

Michigan is often mentioned as "The Great State of Michigan." This might be because Michiganders have a lot of pride in their state or it's another way to attach the Great Lakes to our moniker.

Michigan is not known for having great roads. The state has the highest auto insurance rates in the nation. Michigan has not had a championship pro sports team in many years. So what is it about Michigan that makes Michiganders so proud to be from the state?

Why Are Michiganders So Proud to Be From Michigan?

A thread on Michigan's Reddit page asks, "Why are we so proud of our state?" I read through this thread and this is what Michiganders had to say about Michigan.

Do someone forget to say Michiganders are also smart? Right out of the gate on this thread, ewgxyz points out that 76% of the people living in Michigan were born here. LSDsavedmelife asks have you experienced other places? If you lack Michigan pride go to Gary, Indiana, spend a day there, and come back with a much better attitude about your home state.

Another great post on this thread came from Simmumah who mentioned Michigan being one of the most beautiful states in America and commented on our 4 seasons. That is one of the things I am most proud of, we get a pretty even distribution of all 4 seasons.

AnnaKomnene1990 pointed out how many vehicles in Michigan have decals on their cars about the state which is something you don't see much of in other states.

I think poster MKP724 who has been to 40 states summed it up by pointing out how much there is to do outdoors in Michigan with all the federal/state land that is available. This person talks about loving our forests, rivers, beaches, lakes, and weather.
