Where to See the Best Fall Colors in Kent County
We are just about at peak color in West Michigan. This upcoming weekend would be a great time to hop in the car and head out on a color tour. The Kent County Road Commission knows the roads in this area very well. Every year they publish a guide on just what roads to take to see the best fall colors in Kent County.
The guide breaks down the routes by regions of the county...
Northern Kent County
In Northern Kent County there are three different routes you can take, depending on just how far you'd like to drive. There is a 20, a 38, and a 43 mile loop. These routes cover over 100 miles and feature six different parks, including the highest elevation point in the county -- Fisk Knob Park.
Eastern Kent County
This region of the county includes a total of five different routes. You can choose one of two 14.5 mile loops, a 16.5 mile loop, a 30 mile loop, or a 41 mile loop. On this route you see a lot of the area's historic covered bridges, including Fallasburg Covered Bridge, Ada Covered Bridge, and Whites Bridge. The bridges were all build around 1870. This route also features seven different parks.
Southern Kent County
There are a total of seven different loops in this region of the county to choose from. The loops range from an 8 mile loop to a 36 mile loop. A total of eight different parks can be visited on these loops. Along the way there are apple orchards, farm markets, cider mills and more to stop and see.
Western Kent County
There is only one route on the Western Kent County color tour -- a 35.5 mile loop. There are four different parks on this route, along with apple orchards and the fall harvest. You can also access The White Pine Trail from the western route. Bring your bikes or hike along the trail for added color.
