What Do Yoopers Consider To Be ‘Up North’?
Yoopers and Trolls (name Yoopers have for those who live in the Lower Peninsula) have a different idea of what is considered "Up North" in Michigan.
Trolls Consider this to be Up North in Michigan
Growing up in Michigan, one thing we all learn is, that going up north is a thing but depending if you live in the Lower or Upper Peninsulas, where up north is can be entirely different.
There is no precise measurement from the State of Michigan that proclaims where up north begins but many in the Lower Peninsula have an idea depending upon who you ask. Some say it is the area between the Zilwaukee Bridge and the Mackinac Bridge. Others say up north is between Grayling and the Mackinac Bridge. I tend to lean toward the Zilwaukee Bridge and the Mackinac Bridge because the Zilwaukee Bridge is in line with White Cloud on the West side of the state. Plus, White Cloud is where the north begins because it says so on the signs coming into town. Plus, it's where I live.

What Do Yoopers Consider To Be 'Up North'?
A person using the Reddit handle "LukeL1000" asked the questions, "Where is your 'Up North' as a Yooper? Is it the Keweenaw Peninsula, Canada, or Isle Royale? Do you feel the need to have a getaway weekend?" Let's find out what da Yoopers had to say now dare aye.
There seems to be a common thread of going to Green Bay or the Lower Peninsula for a getaway. So I guess the Yoopers go West or South for a weekend.
One poster who lives in Iron Mountain says Keweenaw is up north for him. Others who live in Marquette, Ishpeming, and Negaunee head to camps in Big Bay or near Lake Michigamme. It's only about a 30-minute drive so "Up North" is not far for those Yoopers.
Some Yoopers said Canada is "Up North" for them while others say it's just an elevation thing. You can jump into the conversation by clicking here.
