Gas stations aren't typically people's first choice of place to eat, but sometimes, desperate times call for desperate measures. I used to work for the county, which meant I spent a decent amount of time in a truck traveling around West Michigan, stopping at various gas stations. I consumed more gas station food than any one person ever should.

But one gas station stood out to me during my travels and now holds a special spot in my heart: Wesco. I'm not alone in my appreciation for the store.

Wesco is a regional gas station largely along Michigan's west coast. Like most gas stations, you can fill up your car, your gut, and get propane if needed. But for many, it's more than just a gas station. What is it about Wesco that Michiganders love so much? For many, it's the charm the gas station still has.

In a world where gas station companies are copied and pasted around the country in mass, having a gas station that sells massive bags of popcorn, baked goods (one woman on Facebook described their no-baked cookies as "the love child" of no-bake and fudge), hot fresh food, and a variety of Slurpees makes this gas station stand out. I mean, name another gas station that offers delivery.

The crews are friendly and are in touch with their communities (I went for these photos and learned Wesco is taking pre-orders for Fat Tuesday). The staff seem to enjoy where they look, as noticed by them having fun on their social media.

Overall, while Wesco is just a gas station, for many Michiganders, it's more than just a gas station.
