A man chained to the top of an Escalade went on a thrill ride on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit, barely getting under the overpasses. He must have been a fan of 80s teen movies.

A random driver caught noticed a SUV whizzing by him on a Detroit freeway when something caught his eye.

Was that someone on top of the Escalade, using chains and rope to secure him to the roof?

Yup.

And the guy barely moved when the vehicle zipped under overpasses!!

At that point, you have to get your smartphone out and start recording, right?

The video was posted by a regular follower of the Metro Detroit News Instagram feed by the name of Lonnie Webster, who later told FOX 2 News:

"I've been seeing a lot of crazy things but that one right there is top five. There is a guy on top of the car and I'm like, 'No.'"

"He was doing about 85 because I was playing catch-up," Webster said. "It looked like he was locked in, in case he fell off or something like that."

"I saw him duck a couple of times and then I was praying I didn't (get his) brains on my windshield," Webster said.

Police say they almost caught the man, but the driver got off the freeway before they could catch him. They say it may be linked to a series of viral videos of people doing crazy stuff on the Lodge Freeway.

"People are trying to get views, likes, and shares," Webster told FOX 2. "Don't try this at home." Amen to that.

I loved this observation from Deadline Detroit:

Honestly, the most shocking thing about the video to any experienced Detroit driver should be that the driver used his turn signal.

If you're old enough to remember the 1984 movie "Footloose" and another movie which came out a year later called "Teen Wolf", car surfing was something characters in these films did, which prompted on outbreak of similar incidents nationwide.

What goes around comes around, I suppose.
