For 55 years, a select number of Heritage Hill's historic homes have been opened up during the annual Weekend Tour of Homes. The event, taking place on May 16th and 17th, draws hundreds of visitors to the historic part of town, offering exclusive tours of private residences and buildings, with tour guides available to provide historical context.

It's a cool event that highlights the dedicated effort to preserve the city's historical landmarks and decor styles, with some homes dating back to 1843. However, this year is extra special because the Heritage Hill Association has confirmed that one of Heritage Hill's most well-known and hard-to-tour homes, The Voigt House, has been announced as a featured homealong with the Amberg House.

The Voigt House, Heritage Hills' Living Time Capsule

The Voigt House, located at 115 College SE, is one of Heritage Hills most fascinating homes. The former Victorian mansion is a time capsule of life during the time the Voigt families lived there from 1895 to the early 1970s. It is still furnished with the family's belongings, down to their toothbrushes. It was given to the City by the family, and the Grand Rapids Public Museum maintains the property to this day.

Since the Public Museum stopped offering tours of the house in 2009, it has become incredibly rare to gain access to the home, with the home last being featured in the event back in 2018 for the 50th anniversary of the Home Tours. Recently, residents voiced concerns about the home's condition after noticing oddities on the property.
