When I say this is a tough race, I'm understating it. This race, the Marji Gesick, is an all-terrain race across the Upper Peninsula that is meant to be utter hell. The bio for the race is genuinely "Welcome to Hell", and only 666 people can participate. Competitors travel up steep hills, rocks, mud, dirt, and razor-thin trails over 100 miles, and their prize is a belt buckle and a $1. Really.

Usually, every participant will do whatever they can to make this already insanely difficult challenge easier, but one man did the opposite: instead of riding a mountain bike across the UP wilderness, he rode a mountain unicycle all 100 miles. Yes, a mode of transportation that requires immense balance was ridden across some of the most uneven terrain in the entire state.

Man Finishes Ultimate Challenge In Most Challenging Way

The Marji Gesick is an ultra-competitive race held each year in either 100-mile or 50-mile increments. Competitors can run or bike the distance, but Daniel Streinz completed it on a unicycle. There is footage of this gigachad going down a steep hill successfully immediately after a bicyclist failed; major flex. He documented his preparation for the attempt over on his YouTube channel.

It turns out Daniel has made a habit of riding his unicycle on some of the toughest terrain in the country, but the Marji Gesick was his ultimate challenge, and he beat the 28-hour cut-off. It's a feat of human strength on its own, but on half a bike like that? Incredible.

It was so incredible that even the organizer of the Marji Gesick was stunned by the accomplishment. It's nice to know that even someone who creates a Herculean event can be surprised now and then.
