There Will Be a Lot Less Big Lots As Many Stores Closing in MI
Nearly 200 Big Lots locations are going away across the United States and some stores may be the ones you shop at in West Michigan.
Big Lots
In most Michigan communities there is a Big Lots store. I stop at the one occasionally in Big Rapids since I live further north of Grand Rapids.
I used to shop at a Big Lots location once a year in Indiana. I used to book a music festival and in the band riders (requests needed for dressing rooms) almost all wanted black towels. Most would use the hand towels on stage but some wanted full-size towels for the showers. Big Lots always carried the towels and I could get a festival's worth for hardly anything. You have to save where you can when running a large music festival.
Big Lots was not always called that. The company originally owned by Consolidated Stores Corporation in Columbus, Ohio started the retail chain Odd Lots. There was another company with a similar name so Odd Lots switched to Big & Small Lots then eventually went with Big Lots.

Big Lots Closing Some Stores in Michigan
Big Lots locations across the United States have been struggling since the pandemic with many locations underperforming due to inflation. What started as 35 to 40 stores closing has risen to nearly 200 of the company's 1400 stores nationwide.
According to WOOD, about 60 stores alone will close in California with 89 stores in 27 states closing stores which include Michigan.
Michigan stores closing are the Big Lots in Kentwood, Okemos, Portage, and Ypsilanti. There is no word these will be the last to close in Michigan, but only time will tell. Many of the store locations closing offer up to 20% off so you may have time to catch one last sale if you live close to one of the Big Lots locations closing.
