Is the Earth flat? A 'Flat Earther' runs into a NASA worker at Starbucks and asks him stupid questions about space. It didn't end the way he was hoping. For the record, we hate this guy!
Stephen Hawking, one of the most famous physicists in the world, has teamed up with a huge $100 million research and development program called Breakthrough Starshot. The goal is to get to Alpha-Centauri within 20 years, using tiny postage-stamp-sized nanocraft, powered by lasers and solar winds.
Last October, one of us got some "Astronaut Ice Cream", and we decided to try it, to experience the whole astronaut lifestyle, and food choices. Can't really say any of us liked it (except Janna), and it was super messy. But this is what the astronauts eat, right?
SpaceX has been making news, even though they really haven't been making any trips into space. They've had some successful, and not-so-successful launch attempts, landing attempts, etc. But they're still trying. And tonight, they try again, and live stream it!
A couple weeks ago, Digital Queen Wendy was in Chicago with some friends, and they stopped into the Museum of Science and Industry. While there, Wendy learned about Astronaut Ice Cream. Freeze-dried ice cream they eat in space. She'd never had any, so she bought some to bring back, that we could all try together!
SpaceX has been to space, and is the first commercial company to have a spacecraft dock with the International Space Station, which is pretty cool. But they have their sights set higher, and want to send people to Mars. The next step toward that from their unmanned Dragon ship, is the seven-person Crew Dragon, which is scheduled for launch in 2017.
There have been a ton of photos released from space before, with amazing detail, even thought their taken from many, many miles away. Heck, the International Space Station is like, 270 miles away from earth, and they can read the newspaper you're sitting with on the park bench!
But, HD video hasn't been a thing. Until now.
Okay, I'm not the gamer that Ned is, but then again, who is, right? But there are some games I loved, and played the hell out of. For quite a while, I was obsessed with Descent, and played it relentlessly until someone stole my joystick. (Not a euphemism.)
I even remember the intro video where the stereotype Hispanic pilot asked, "Cood sahmbuddy 'splain to me"...I laughed at it every tim
Wait, what? About two years ago, the Mars One project began soliciting candidates to go on a one-way trip to Mars to help prepare the planet for colonization by Earth. There will be 24 selected to head to Mars and begin the process of making the red planet ready for the rest of us to move house.
And die, I guess, since there's no return trip even in the planning for this.
