The first trailer for the Han Solo spinoff arrived, and we’ve broken down all the Easter eggs and details you may have missed.

Although pre-production on Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s young Han Solo spinoff has been underway for some time now (operating under the clever codename “Red Cup”), today marks the full, official start of production. To celebrate, Lucasfilm has debuted the first photo of the cast and their directors, crammed together inside the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon as if posing for a very cheerful (if a bit tardy) holiday greeting card.

Things are real tough for everyone right now. Our current election is bonkers, Twitter and Netflix were down for most of the day, and Jennifer Lawrence is probably dating Darren Aronofsky. Life is hard, you know? But sometimes the world is OK and dreams can come true, and if you need proof of that, look no further than this amazing casting news: Donald Glover is playing young Lando Calrissian in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo movie. More photos from the last few days of SXSW 2011.  Donald Glover, star of NBC's Community and who handled hosting duties at the mtvU Woodie Awards earlier in the week, killed the crowd with his blazing set at Red 7 Patio under his Childish Gambino persona.  Community co-star Danny Pudi was there in support of his friend.

Last night I was able to attend the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards, celebrating the best in music as voted by college kids, while exploring Austin, TX during SXSW.  It was my first awards show experience and it was cool to see how the actual production was done.  The ceremony was hosted by Community star Donald Glover and was kicked off by none other than the Foo Fighters.
