‘SNL’ Sends ‘Game of Thrones’ to South Centros
In the cutthroat world of HBO’s Game of Thrones, life is hard and even the most innocent people find themselves victimized by the powers that be. So of course SNL would make the comparison between living in Westeros and living on the means streets of Los Angeles. Yes, it’s time to visit the eighth kingdom of this wildly popular fantasy series: South Centros.
In this (unfortunately fake) trailer for a very special episode of Game of Thrones directed by John Singleton, the citizens of South Centros struggle to survive life on the mean streets, where stray arrows fly and the local Lannisters are corrupt and merciless. Yes, the show did get Jaime Lannister himself, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, to stop by for a cameo. And yes, he does actually say “Don’t hate the slayer, hate the game.”
Although Leslie Jones, Jay Pharoah, Sasheer Zamata and Kenan Thompson (playing Ice Cube, who is all into breeding direwolves) all get their fair share of jokes, guest host Taraji P. Henson gets to strut her comedic stuff as an emotionally unstable single mother who lost her husband at the Red Wedding. In fact, Henson proved herself to be a comedic force to be reckoned with throughout the entire episode, taking even the weakest jokes and spinning them into something special.
