Swedish metal mavens Sabaton have gathered the ranks to once again indulge their fascination with the great battles in history. The band just revealed that the name of their ninth studio album will be The Great War and it's on track to arrive this summer.

The conceptual album will cover stories inspired by the First World War. As part of the creative process, the band started their sessions on Nov. 11, 2018, exactly 100 years after the end of the First World War, which came to its conclusion on Nov. 11, 1918. The band worked closely with producer Jonas Kjellgren at Black Lounge Studios to fully realize their vision.

“This is not the first time we sing about stories from this period in time, but now we felt the timing was right to make a full concept album about this war,” the band comments.

In addition to the album news, fans may also be interested in the artwork. The evocative piece from Peter Sallai captures a soldier at one of his most vulnerable moments. Check out the artwork and watch a trailer on how the artwork came together below.

“This is the biggest album we have taken on so far, there is so much depth and story around the songs that we never had before,” Pär Sundström announces. “Expect many surprises as we have tried new things and we also went back in time to a concept we know a lot of you love. The Great War has been created side by side with the Sabaton History Channel to make 2019 the most exciting year in our 20 year history.” To dig deeper into Sabaton's great battle fascination, check out the Sabaton History Channel here.
