Public Visitation Set for Detroit Tigers, Red Wings Owner Mike Ilitch [VIDEO]
Those wishing to pay their respects to Mike Ilitch, owner of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings and founder of Little Caesar's pizza, can do so Wednesday at Fox Theatre.
Ilitch died Friday at 87 at a hospital in Detroit.
According to the Detroit Free Press, starting Monday, the public is invited to share memories and messages on a temporary memorial outside of Comerica Park near the “Big Tiger”.
The public visitation will be held noon to 8p.m. on Wednesday in the Grand Lobby of Fox Theatre. Ilitch and his wife Marian fully restored the historic site and made it the headquarters of Little Caesar's in 1989.
The Ilitch family also said in a release that additional memorial events will be planned at Joe Louis Arena, the Lakeland Complex and the Little Caesars Arena construction site.
They released a statement thanking to community for its support,
"To everyone who has so graciously remembered Mike Ilitch, we extend a heartfelt thank you," the statement reads. "The volume of condolences and kind wishes overwhelms us, and we appreciate it more than words can express. We know that he would’ve been touched by the outpouring of support, especially from this community that he so loved. We will miss him tremendously, and we are grateful, humbled and comforted to know that his lifetime was filled with well-lived moments."
