Plane Crashes in The Hardy Pond Near White Cloud Over the Weekend
Not a lot usually happens in White Cloud, Michigan, other than a lot of boat activity on the Hardy Pond but this weekend a plane crashed into the water.
White Cloud, Michigan
I live in White Cloud, Michigan. It's a quiet small town with a sign that says "Where the North Begins and the Pure Waters Flow" as you are entering the community on 37.
Most people know about Hardy Pond and all the campgrounds in the area. In case you are unfamiliar with Hardy Pond, it's 3,750 square acres of water that gets up to 110 feet deep in the area in front of the Hardy Dam. This water system is very well-known to boaters and campers alike. Now with the Dragon Trails that have been built, it has become a huge destination for those who like serious mountain biking.
Plane Crashes Into Hardy Pond
If you've never seen a plane on a tow truck before, here's your chance in the video above.
It's not too often a tow truck can draw a crowd but this one sure did in White Cloud over the weekend.
According to WOOD, a flight instructor has a passenger on board and was practicing a maneuver over Hardy Pond Saturday morning. The move is called a touch-and-go. The plane wound up going down into the Hardy Pond.
If you have been to Hardy Pond in the summer then you know there are lots of houseboats that are there. One houseboat saw the plane coming down and was headed that way before the plane hit the water. The captain of the boat was able to get the flight instructor and passenger off the wing of the plane and onto the houseboat before the plane sank. Neither of the two men was hurt in the crash.
Airbags were put underneath the plane to help get it out of the water and onto a tow truck.
No word yet on what caused the plane to go down but the crash is currently being investigated.
