Michigan's weather has been pretty all over the place this year. A seasonable winter and spring were followed by a Michigan summer that has, by all accounts, quite insufferable. Between record-breaking heat waves and consistently above-average temperatures, Michiganders are ready for a break from the heat.

Thankfully, it looks like we won't have too much longer if The Old Farmer's Almanac's prediction for Fall proves to be accurate, with this fall predicted to be "cooler and drier than normal."

Fall 2025 Prediction

The Old Farmer's Almanac (OFA), a book that has been predicting long-term weather for farming, gardening, cooking, fishing, and more since 1792, has published its 2025 fall forecast, predicting a "cooler than average" fall.

This is in opposition to the prediction the OFA has made for much of the other states, with much of the western US expected to have a warmer-than-normal autumn. Most of Michigan's lower peninsula falls in the "Lower Lakes" region, as indicated by the map and pink lines below.

The OFA predicts that September will have a "mix of showers and sun," with the beginning of the month continuing the summer heat and ending with cooling off at the end, with an overall average temperature of 68°F. The first day of fall is September 22nd.

October will see an average temperature of 56°F, 2°F below normal, with a mix of showers and cooler temperatures as the month progresses, with a chance of higher temperatures at the end of the month. Again, these are just predictions, as we all know the weather is prone to changing. The OFA has a good track record. Let's see how it did last year.

Fall 2024 Prediction vs Reality

Last year, the OFA predicted that Michigan would have "below average precipitation" and below-average temperatures. As you can see in the graph above, Michigan spent the majority of the fall with above-average temperatures, the opposite of the OFA's prediction. However, it was spot on with the precipitation prediction, visible below.

So, feel free to take the Old Farmer's Almanac with a grain of salt, as the weather is prone to change.
