Authorities were called to the scene of a crash where a Semi truck hit an Amtrak train in Ottawa County. It happened in the area of Chicago Drive and 64th Avenue on Monday morning around 6:38am.

59 people were on board the train which was heading from Grand Rapids to Chicago. Deputies believe the semi was trying to outrun the train when the two collided. The truck was making a delivery to a farm nearby. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the semi-truck turned into the farm and was crossing the railroad tracks when it was struck by a westbound train. The train struck the trailer of the truck and spun the truck into a nearby yard.

There were no injuries reported including that of the semi driver. Amtrak chartered busses to carry passengers to Holland.

Sgt Matt Wildfong with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office told Fox 17 that the semi driver could be sighted for causing the accident. Rail traffic may be delayed because the train experienced mechanical issues due to the crash and will have to be moved.
