
New Caribbean Restaurant and Bakery Opens in Grand Rapids
We're just over a month into 2026, and already Grand Rapids has welcomed a few new eateries like Sugah Please and the area's first Bo Jangles. Now, the local dining scene has another addition offering late-night Caribbean bites.

Universal Ruth Restaurant & Bakery opened at 1559 Kalamazoo Ave. SE in the Boston Square neighborhood last month, serving a mix of Caribbean classics and American favorites.

While the restaurant doesn't have an official website yet, there is a menu listed here that includes fried chicken, curry chicken, stew chicken, chicken wings, fried pork, fried beef, fried plantains, sweet potatoes, corn, spinach, rice and beans, along with American staples like mac and cheese and potato salad.

With options for lunch, dinner, or a late-night bite, the restaurant’s extended hours make it a convenient stop for a wide range of diners.
Universal Ruth's Hours are:
- Monday: 9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Tuesday – Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.
- Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 a.m.
- Saturday: 7:00 a.m. – 2:15 a.m.
- Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 a.m.
According to Amplify GR, the new restaurant is locally and female owned, adding to Boston Square's growing list of diverse businesses.
