Pay Attention When Entering Michigan Woods

Michigan is a state that has plenty of woods in the Upper and Lower Peninsula to get into. From hiking, exploring, camping, hunting, and even some long walks to some hidden lakes, there is plenty to do when it comes to the woods of Michigan.

Many of Michigan's trails are marked but most federal land doesn't have trails running all through them unless they are game trails. It is very easy to get turned around in the forests of Michigan. I'm an experienced hunter who pays attention to where I enter the woods, landmarks along the way, and the position of the sun, but on a cloudy or foggy day, or even at night how things look can change quickly.

New App To Help If You Get Lost In The Woods

The app is called what3words. This app is an easy way to identify precise locations. Every 10-foot square of the earth has been given a unique combination of three words that is called a "what3words" address. The app allows you to find, share, and navigate to precise locations using three simple words.

The app is free and could be the difference between life and death depending on where you get turned around in the woods of Michigan.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office shared a post from the Alpine Firefighters Association on Facebook about this new app that helps first responders and dispatch to locate where you are lost or in need of emergency personnel in case of an accident quicker if you are in the outdoors.

As you can see from the post above, if you ever get in a jam whether it be hiking, snowmobiling, falling out of a treestand, or another other emergency the what3words app will help responders find you faster and that could be a huge difference in the outcome.
